"For the artist, drawing is discovery. And that is not just a slick phrase; it is quite literally true."

John Berger

"We never look at just one thing; we are always looking at the relations between things and ourselves."

John Berger

SOMMET. Winter Salon of Contemporary Art. February 2019. St. Moritz.

The first edition of Sommet, the new Winter Salon for Contemporary Art, aims to subvert the typical format of the art fair, searching for innovative ways to connect the works with the space and the visitor, creating new rules and new atmospheres.

The unusual, almost surreal context plays a key role: the imposing Maloja Palace, a nineteenth-century hotel with a fascinating and controversial history, brings the most interesting international galleries to the sovereign mountains of the Engadine, close to St. Moritz, calling them to confront its rooms, sumptuous, yet at the same time, familiar and intimate.

At the heart of the project is the construction of an experience involving the works, the artists, the gallerists and collectors, allowing them to converge in a unique location, through their own, equally individual itineraries.

The “sommet” is the pinnacle of the mountain. Sommet dares to summon the highest expressions of the art of the moment and the most interesting figures who nourish the scene, creating new dynamics around the perception and acquisition of the works.
